Baroque Palace of Mannheim
The Mannheim Schloss (Baroque Palace) Germanys largest Baroque construction took forty-years to erect. The construction was finally completed in1760 during the reign of Prince-Elector and Count Palatine Charles Theodore. After numerous reconstructions and restorations, the palace now shines again in its ... [more] former glory and is the home of the most beautiful university in Germany.
However, there is plenty more to discover than just its lecture theatres. As the former cultural centre of the Kurpfalz area, and the birthplace of the world-famous "Mannheim School, the palace museum offers insights into royal life - the Knights Hall, chapel, magnificent ceiling paintings, royal furnishings, valuable collections of paintings and coins, natural history cases and much, much more.
The Palace Church (Schlosskirche), founded as the court chapel, also captures the hearts of visitors. This is credited to the impressive gable reliefs depicting the Holy Trinity and the striking ceiling frescos by the artist Paul Egell.
